According to statistics from the customs, in the 8 month period of 2023, the import of olive oil has recorded a marked decrease in quantity and value, compared to the same period of the previous year.

Thus, during the period January-August 2023, only 22.5 tons of olive oil worth 18 million ALL were imported, compared to 184 tons of olive oil worth 104 million ALL imported during January-August 2022.

The purchase of olive oil across borders has dropped 8 times in quantity and nearly 6 times in value during this period, showing a drastic change in consumer behavior and orientation towards domestic production.

As it was expected, the summer season and the arrival of tourists or immigrants have significantly driven up the sale of the local product, with the average price per liter varying from 400-600 ALL.

On the other hand, apart from domestic sales, Albania has significantly increased olive oil exports in the first 6 months of this year, in terms of value and quantity. In 6 months, an amount of 4,100 tons was exported, from an average of 80 tons exported.
Olive production increased by 39% during 2022. If nearly 110 thousand tons of olives were produced in 2021, during the previous year the production reached 152.6 thousand tons.
