TIRANA, April 7 /ATA/ The General Consulate of Albania was officially inaugurated on Monday in Ulcinj, Montenegro, a city steeped in natural, historical, and cultural heritage.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania, Igli Hasani, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Ervin Ibrahimović, representatives from the central and local government, the diplomatic corps, local citizens of Ulcinj, and others.

For Minister Hasani, the inauguration of this consulate is both a testament to the special relationship and ties between our two countries, as well as a shared commitment to building a stronger and more interconnected future between Albania and Montenegro.

In his opening remarks, Hasani emphasized, “As Albania and Montenegro are allies, united by a shared vision for peace, stability, and European integration, this step represents a crucial foundation for enhancing cooperation across all levels – political, economic, cultural, and human. It will serve as a strategic center to bolster trade exchanges, encourage investments, and expand opportunities for sustainable development, especially in sectors like tourism, energy, and infrastructure.”

Minister Hasani also highlighted that the Albanian government closely follows the progress and well-being of Albanians wherever they reside. He stated that the Albanian community in Montenegro has made a remarkable contribution to the country’s democratic and Euro-Atlantic journey and has always played a crucial role in ensuring stability and coexistence.

“We will continue to support this role and encourage their active representation at all levels of institutional life,” stated Hasani.

As part of his visit to Ulcinj, Hasani held a meeting with the Mayor of Ulcinj, Genc Nimanbegu, where they discussed important issues of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of culture, education, and tourism.
He also visited the Center for the Book and Promotion of Albanian Culture – Ulqini Bookstore, which, it is worth mentioning, received a fund of 50,000 euros at the beginning of this year. He assured that financial support for the operation of this center will continue.
During his visit, Hasani also met with leaders of Albanian political parties in Montenegro to exchange ideas and discuss important issues related to the political situation and regional developments.
