Balla recalled that the majority’s commitment to expanding services for the diaspora has yielded tangible results, particularly through the online consulate, which has significantly increased the range of services available to Albanian citizens abroad.

He underlined that the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has prioritised this in its budget, emphasising that diplomatic missions should be increasingly oriented towards providing consular services.

‘I am confident that the Ministry will follow up on the Prime Minister’s commitment to establish an Albanian consulate in Crete, Greece, in 2026. It is extremely necessary. There are between 45,000 and 50,000 compatriots living in Crete, far more than in countries where we currently have embassies or consulates,’ Balla stated.
