According to sources from the Constitutional Court, the session with the object “On the dismissal of President of the Republic of Albania for serious violations of the Constitution” will be held on January 18, 2022, at 10:00 hrs.

The case on dismissal of the President went to the Constitutional Court, after 104 MPs out of 140 in the Albanian Parliament voted for dismissal of President Meta in June this year.

The Socialists blame Meta for the public statements in the run up and during the April 25 election campaign which, according to them, have incited violence and seriously violated the Constitution.
The vote came after a report drafted by an investigative commission with the participation of the opposition set up specifically to investigate and analyze President Meta’s stance before and during the election campaign.

According to the report, President Meta has breached more than 10 articles of the Constitution which, according to the socialist majority, has resulted in failure to guarantee national unity by siding with the opposition before the April 25 elections and inciting instability and violence.

If the constitutional court members find the decision of the Parliament legitimate, President Meta has to step down terminating his term of office, which runs out in July 2022.
