TIRANA, June 26 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama told the National Conference on the Right to Information on Wednesday that providing information to the public doesn’t undermine confidentiality or secrecy of any investigation.

The government head stated that journalists do not disclose investigative secrets, but prosecutors do.

“Confidentiality is completely a different thing. I avail myself of this opportunity to thank the Ombudsman about the case concerning a journalist, who stood accused and was mistreated for revealing the investigative secret. During the pandemic too, the prosecutor’s office looked into certain journalists and for me journalists do not reveal investigative secrets, but prosecutors do,” he said.

“When the secret falls into the hands of the journalists, it is no longer his obligation to keep the secret. And it is not the journalist the one who should be the target of the investigation, but the individuals who provided sensitive information to the journalist,” Rama added.
