TIRANA, Nov 14 /ATA/ In the framework of the meeting of the two governments, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Albania Elva Margariti and Minister of Culture of North Macedonia Bisera Kostadinovska-Stojcevska signed the cooperation agreement “For the return of trafficked icons to their country of origin”.

This is an agreement in support of the provisions of the UNESCO Convention of November 14, 1970 “On Means of Prohibition and Prevention of Illegal Transport, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property”, in which the Republic of Albania and the Republic of North Macedonia are parties, as well as in accordance with the cooperation agreement in the field of culture between the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania, signed in Tirana on November 16, 2005.

In 2013, the State Police of the Republic of Albania seized 476 suspected “cultural heritage” works and opened criminal proceedings at the Prosecutor’s Office of the Judicial District of Tirana. With the completion of investigative actions and final decisions at all levels of the judicial system in the Republic of Albania, experts from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Albania and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia concluded that 20 of the suspected works of “cultural heritage” belong to the cultural heritage of North Macedonia. Today’s agreement defines the procedures for the return and transfer of the icons to the country of origin, in cooperation with the State Police and the Albanian customs and those of the Republic of North Macedonia, respecting the provisions of the UNESCO Convention of November 14, 1970.

Symbolically, one of the 20 icons identified as the “cultural heritage” of North Macedonia was returned to its country of origin. Thanks to the inter-institutional work of our two countries, “St. Ilia”, realized by Diço Zografi, which once belonged to the church of “St. Athanas” in the village of Radoshte in Struga, will soon go to the believers. Icons will be sent to North Macedonia after the ratification of the signed agreement in the Parliament of Albania./p.s./

TIRANA, September 13 /ATA/ The new dormitory building of the professional school “Kolin Gjoka” in Lezha is being built from scratch after the damage caused by the earthquake of November 26, 2019.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared today on social networks pictures of how this building was and how it has been transformed.

Rama said that the works are near completion in the revived dormitory of the vocational school “Kolin Gjoka”, in Lezha.

“The more schools are revived one after the other, the more the question arises, well, where do they find the courage to say that Albania was better for us, when it was worse as the pictures of the ruins show of their time(?)”, emphasized Rama.

In November 2020, the government decided to use the reconstruction fund, to finance the reconstruction of the dormitory of the “Kolin Gjoka” vocational high school, Lezha municipality and the designation of Lezha City Hall as the implementing unit.

The government decided to use the reconstruction fund to finance the reconstruction of the dormitory in the amount of 155 million ALL./p.s./
