Strengthening Community Policing program is a Swedish government support for the Ministry of Interior and the Albanian State Police on Community Policing, designed to support Albanian police to meet the EU standards in the Community Policing field.

Addressing the event, the Minister of Interior Ervin Hoxha expressed gratitude to the Swedish government for supporting Albanian police over the years, underlining that the two previous phases of the program focused on building mutual trust and partnership between police and local communities.

The program has now entered a new stage aimed at strengthening and further consolidating this partnership through the Local Public Safety Councils.

“Community policing is a reality embraced by citizens and the civil society,” the Interior Minister said.

Hoxha also highlighted the program’s role in school safety initiatives and stronger cooperation between students, parents, teachers, and law enforcement.

Interior Minister cited the findings of a recent survey conducted by IDRA through support from Swedish SCPA program on the State Police performance.

According to him, the survey findings suggest that 65% of Albanians rate police work as “good” or “very good”, while 86% recognize and support community policing efforts. Additionally, 82% feel safe in their neighborhoods.

The Minister of Interior also reassured the public of the State Police readiness and preparation to guarantee free and fair elections on May 11 parliamentary elections in Albania.

He emphasized the importance of police training and assistance from the international partners for the police to be ready to meet their legal obligations to uphold election standards.
