TIRANA, May 31 /ATA/ Students and teachers from vocational schools in Shkodra, Tirana, and Elbasan showcased a one-of-a-kind fashion collection inspired by the xhubleta, the ancient Albanian garment recognized by UNESCO as part of the world’s cultural heritage, demonstrating their dedication and creativity.

At the closing event, where tradition served as inspiration and craftsmanship transformed into art, young participants demonstrated that vocational training is a powerful pathway to self-fulfilment and cultural innovation.

The Ministry of Economy, Culture, and Innovation expressed special gratitude to all the students and teachers from vocational schools in Shkodra, Tirana, and Elbasan.

The xhubleta, with its distinctive form dating back to the Bronze Age, served as the starting point for modern interpretations of style and identity— a vivid example of how our rich heritage can live on through younger generations.

MEKI expressed gratitude for the organization of this event to the “TRE MARIAT” Foundation, the XHUBLETA Anthropological Center, AKPA for coordinating with vocational schools, SDC/S4J for their support and trust, the Industrial Property Directorate for raising awareness about the legal protection of creations, the teachers and school leaders who bring knowledge to life every day, and Albanian Night—a great home of Albanian art and hospitality.

This project stands as proof that when youth, culture, and education join forces, roots and wings move forward together.

The four-thousand-year-old Albanian xhubleta was inscribed on November 28, 2022, on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list. This symbolic garment of our heritage is now a treasure for all humanity.

The xhubleta is recognized as the traditional garment of the women of Malësia. The documentation of the xhubleta’s artisanal craftsmanship was submitted to UNESCO due to the risk of this unique traditional attire disappearing.
