Archbishop Anastas had requested to be buried in this cathedral, a place he had personally helped to build.

A large number of believers along with citizens of Tirana and beyond, stayed until the end of the ceremony in the cathedral courtyard, where a large screen was set up to allow them to follow the ceremony and the speeches delivered on this occasion.

On the way to the crypt, the coffin was escorted by a small group of Orthodox clergy to continue the respective rituals, while representatives of the state, politics, other religious communities, and the crowd of believers left the Cathedral.

The Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës, and all of Albania, Anastas Janullatos, passed away on January 25 at a hospital in Athens. Archbishop Anastas was 95 years old and his health condition has deteriorated for some time. According to sources from the Orthodox Church, his death was due to the failure of several organs. The Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church declared five days of mourning, from January 25 to January 29, 2025.
