Road Authority said in a press release that heavy snow has hit remote areas in north of the country  and in some areas it was more than one metre high on Saturday, but the road is totally open to traffic.

“Use of winter tires and snow chains is recommended to motorists using this road,” the Albanian Road Authority said.

With the new road constructed, Theth is easily accessible throughout the year and it is now open to the vehicles earlier than previously.

Both a sprawling village along the valley floor amid an amphitheatre of slate-grey mountains, and a national park containing stunning landscapes and excellent hiking routes, Theth is now well on its way to being Albania’s next big thing.

Bad weather conditions with torrential rain, snow and strong winds hit mostly Albania’s north and southeast in second half of January, causing difficulties in vehicles movement.

Road Authority said it carried out inspection of the road and found that movement of vehicles on this route could be allowed.
