TIRANA, Aug 28 /ATA/-By Maela Marini/ At the presentation of the Integrated Waste Management Reform today, Prime Minister Edi Rama highlighted the state of waste management and territory cleanup during the tourist season.

The Prime Minister remarked that “like every season, we were once again faced with the significant challenge of managing the sharp increase in waste volume caused by the growing number of visitors and tourists.”

“Still, I want to emphasize that this year we have witnessed considerable improvements in the majority of areas affected by the surge in visitors and tourists, as well as the high waste volume,” Rama said.

The Prime Minister stated that “there have certainly been some issues, but this year, starting with the Municipality of Lezhë, which continues to lead by example in cleanliness, followed by Shkodër, Durrës, Himarë, and beyond, things have gone better than last year.”

In this context, the Prime Minister noted that while progress has been encouraging, a key challenge remains: the lack of consistency, with several problematic areas still present along the coastline.

“Meanwhile, we must continue at an even faster pace regarding reforms and legal measures, in line with the ambition and national priority of EU membership by the end of this decade, starting with the conclusion of accession negotiations by the end of 2027, as has been agreed in principle with the European Commission,” Rama said.
