TIRANA, October 23 /ATSH/ – The Agency for Media and Information (MIA) issued a statement today regarding a fragment of a speech by Prime Minister Edi Rama—delivered on October 24, 2022, in Jerusalem—which is currently circulating on social media.

According to MIA, the fragment is being spread out of its original context, leading to a completely false interpretation of what was actually said.

MIA emphasized that the video edit has altered the meaning of the statement, resulting in an inaccurate portrayal of the prime minister’s words.

In its clarification, the Agency explained that Rama was referring to a historical document from 1936—specifically, a coded message from an Italian informant addressed to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs—which stated: “Without wishing to cause alarm, I must say that Albanian sympathies toward us will soon fade, and our place will be taken by the Jews,’” clarified MIA.

According to MIA, the fragment presents the quote in the first person, omitting the context that clarifies these were the words of an Italian informant, rather than a statement by Prime Minister Edi Rama himself.

“In the manipulated fragment, the statement is presented in the first person—rather than as a quote from an Italian informant to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs—fundamentally altering the meaning of the sentence and creating the false impression that the prime minister was speaking about the disappearance of the Albanian people,” MIA noted. MIA clarified that, “This is not a statement or position held by Prime Minister Edi Rama, but rather a quote from a historical document that has been distorted through editing and by being taken out of context.” /m.q/r.e/j.p/p.s./

TIRANA, Aug 2 /ATA/ – Albanian government approved a decision adjusting the pension indexation rate on Thursday, a significant update to the pension system, set to take effect on July 1, 2024.

The new policy sets a 13.5% indexation rate for pensions calculation aimed at aligning benefits more closely with current economic conditions.

However, the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation announced Friday that the indexation adjustment applies to the pension calculation of the people who retire after July 1, 2024.

According to the Ministry of Economy, this is an annual procedure and the new policy will serve to new pension calculation based on the social contributions paid by every person.

“The decision is applicable to the pension calculation for individuals who will retire after June 1, 2024,” the Ministry clarified, adding that pension indexation will be approved in October according to the consumer price index.

By adjusting the base used for calculating pensions, the government hopes to ensure that retirees receive more equitable benefits. The decision is part of a broader effort to improve the fairness and accuracy of pension payouts.

TIRANA, April 23 /ATA/ – A news report by the Italian daily newspaper “La Repubblica” on Tuesday, alleging over “a disturbing” phone call between Prime Minister Rama and the director of RAI 3 over the “Report” show, turned out to be inaccurate.

The first to debunk the report was Prime Minister Edi Rama, who clarified that no such “disturbing”’ phone call transpired between him and the director of RAI 3.

“Rather than a tense exchange, the communication with the RAI director merely involved a request for a dialogue regarding the program’s perceived scandalously slanderous content,” PM Rama clarified in a statement.

The Italian media outlet has promptly reacted following Rama’s clarification, revising their reporting, acknowledging the need for correction and removing the alleged “disturbing phone call” reference from its revised article.

RAI confirmed Prime Minister Rama’s account, emphasizing that his communication with the RAI director was not confrontational but rather a request to be heard.

In their revised report “La Reppublica” clarifies that the RAI director “received a message from Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama requesting to discuss the episode of Report concerning the Italy-Albania agreement on immigration.”

TIRANA, March 9 /ATA/ – The Ministry of Defence reacted Saturday to a report by Greek newspaper Kathimerini, according to which no invitation had been extended to Greece’s Air Force to attend inauguration of the refurbished NATO air base in the town of Kuçova earlier this month.

In its clarification, also published by the newspaper Kathimerini, the Ministry of Defence noted that “Albania and Greece enjoy an excellent level of security and defense cooperation as two committed NATO allies.”

“We are grateful to Greece (and Italy) who have been performing Air Policing for our country for years,” the clarification from the Ministry of Defence added.

“To this very end, an official invitation was sent on January 29 by the Albanian Minister of Defense to his Greek counterpart to pay an official visit to Albania that would coincide with the inauguration ceremony of the tactical airbase in Kuçova. On February 14th, Greece’s Defense Ministry replied that due to already scheduled commitments, Dendias would not be able to attend the ceremony in Kuçova on March 4th. Instead, high-ranking officials from the Greek Embassy in Tirana attended,” the Ministry of Defence said.

“We regret such news that do not reflect the truth and reality regarding our cooperation with our neighboring state, Greece, and may contribute to further misunderstandings between our two friendly countries,” the Ministry of Defence concluded.
