Speaking to reporters, the Socialist senior official announced that Albanian parliament has decided to review the first ever legislation initiative directly proposed by citizens as stipulated by the constitution.

“Since 1998 when this was made possible under the constitution, parliament hasn’t actually received any legislation proposed by more than 20,000 voters to complete the existing legal framework on one of the phenomena concerning the society, namely the sex violence. In this context, I would also include the child and domestic violence in this framework,” Balla said.

“We are discussing and I would like to praise civil society organizations for their readiness to attend every hearing session at parliament and its plenary session, when this initiative will become a reality. I would like to call on heads of parliamentary groups to support this initiative and possibly adopt it before Christmas so that the President can then sign the bill into law as soon as possible,” Balla added.
