The relevant units of the Armed Forces reacted to the situation.

Upon receiving the order to intervene, the Armed Forces engaged personnel of over 100 people and 12 vehicles, also supported by a drone.

The engaged personnel were part of the structures of the Ground Forces, the Support Command and the National Civil Defense Agency.

The operation took place in the conditions of a mountainous terrain where the massif of bushes and forests, which were burning in this area, was also intertwined with the very rocky terrain, which made it extremely difficult to extinguish the flames. As a result, the troops were forced to walk for several hours to reach the operation area.

Despite efforts to extinguish the fire from the ground, as the terrain was too difficult for further intervention, the final extinguishing of the fire was carried out by two special emergency aircraft sent from Greece.

The fire was brought under control in the area toward Palasa and today the work continued in the other part, toward Himara.

The EU’s Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Mechanism said it is channeling more aerial firefighting support to help fight severe forest fires in Portugal, France and Albania.

Regarding the engagement of 2 planes from Greece, it is said that, “These planes can operate for many hours in a row and quickly reach areas that are difficult to access by road. They can save valuable time and support the firefighting teams working on the ground.” /m.m/p.s./
