TIRANA, April 6 /ATA/ The students of the Faculty of Natural Sciences already have a state-of-the-art chemical engineering laboratory like nowhere else in the region.

Accompanied by Minister of Education and Sports Evis Kushi, Rector of the University of Tirana Artan Hoxha and Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Prof.Dr. Spiro Drushku, Prime Minister Edi Rama saw closely this laboratory, funded by the national program of scientific research infrastructure, in the framework of the “Pact for the University”.

Rama said that, “This laboratory should be put in function of generating income for the university by serving other institutions, such as things related to food safety, bio-fuels, and industrial waste”.

Rector of the University of Tirana Artan Hoxha said that, “We have continuous relations with public and non-public entities. In January-March, the University of Tirana applied in 36 projects that are funded by the government, while two years ago there were only two applications.”

This laboratory is financed by the government with about 380,000 Euros and a modest co-funding of the University of Tirana, in the amount of about 10,000 Euros.

With the commissioning of this laboratory, the number of students working and experimenting in the laboratory during the didactic process increases, the number of doctoral students who conduct scientific research and data processing in this laboratory increases; the association of modern apparatus with a computer system for data processing, increases several times the number, size of data and the speed and accuracy of the results obtained.

Accreditation of this laboratory enables the provision of services to third parties.

The laboratory is unique not only in Albania, but also in the region. Also it can serve for the exchange of students between the universities of the region. It ensures the application of the principle of open science, becoming a real part of the European Research Area (ERA) ./ k.s / j.p /p.s./
