Strengthening their 2022 partnership, Chambéry and Korça are dedicating this year to a special program celebrating Albanian culture, arts, and literature.

The “Icons of Albania” exhibition, featuring curated cultural artifacts, is coming to the Museum of Fine Arts of Chambéry from May to November, according to the official announcement.

This exhibition will feature 45 important works of art from the national heritage of Albania from the 14th to the 20th centuries, part of the collection of the National Museum of Medieval Art of Korça.

In addition to this exhibition, other events will be held, such as conferences as part of the Month of Europe, the presence of Albanian partners in the Continents Market, the participation of artists and folklore groups from Korça in the Festival of World Cultures, as well as artistic and theatrical creation projects that bring together young people and professionals from both countries.

The connection between Korça and France is historical and particularly strong. Called “Little Paris” for its Francophone past, Korça is known for its cultural tradition and dynamism, architecture and its historical role in the Albanian national awakening.

Between the two world wars, the French Lyceum in Korça was the cradle of the Albanian intellectual and cultural elites, and its memory will be revived with the imminent opening of the new Franco-Albanian Lyceum of Korça, a joint project between Albania and France with an eye on the sciences and the future. /a.g/p.s./
