Speaking at a joint press conference with the Prime Minister Edi Rama after the European Political Community (EPC) summit in Tirana on Friday, Frederiksen noted that the U.S. President Donald Trump has hinted that the United States is ready to impose more sanctions if Russia is not willing to reach an agreement.

She called for a ceasefire but noted no signs of goodwill from Moscow. More sanctions, she said, may be needed.

Frederiksen said she would suggest looking into “banking and energy, oil, and of course, the fleet.”

“The United States has been clear that what it is asking of Russia is to do the same thing Ukraine is doing at the negotiating table: to accept, respect, and uphold a 30-day ceasefire. We have seen signals from President Trump that the U.S. is ready to level more sanctions if Russia is not willing to reach an agreement. So far, Russia has not been willing to do this. I hope that changes very soon. But if not, I hope that all allies and partners – especially the U.S., with whom we work closely on sanctions -are ready to do more. I suggest we look at the banking system, energy, oil, and also the fleet,” Danish PM stated.
