TIRANA, Jan 29 /ATA/ The agreement between Italy and Albania on migrants is in accordance with the Constitution. This is the ruling of the Constitutional Court, which is expected to be officially published.

According to the media sources, the Constitutional Court, after reviewing the request filed by 37 MPs of the opposition, claiming that the agreement signed by Prime Minister Edi Rama and his Italian counterpart, Giorgia Meloni, ran counter to the Constitution, dismissed it.

The draft agreement on migrants was approved by the Italian government on December 5 and sent to the Italian parliament for approval. On November 6, 2023, Prime Minister Edi Rama and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni signed in Rome the agreement on the construction in Albania of two migrant centres.

According to the agreement, the landing port will be Shengjini, while Gjadri will be the site where the reception centers will be built. The maximum host capacity is 3 thousand beds.
