TIRANA, Aug 31 /ATA/ Gerti Janaqi, director of ASCAP, Agency for Quality Assurance in Pre-University Education, launched the study ” Ending violence through education and its prevention at school.” 1365 schools participated in the study, of them 1248 were public and 117 private schools.

Janaqi said that 39% or 536 schools analyzed are located in urban areas, while 61% are located in rural areas.

“If we dive deep into the data, we see that 2,750 cases of violence at the national level have been reported, treated, solved or prevented. I want to dwell on a phenomenon that seems very technical and simple. My appeal goes out to those who work with school principals, directors of education offices, or teachers, who tend not to report the cases so as not to leave the impression that their school will come off as problematic. It’s the other way around, since you solve the conflict and you have to get the credit for managing the conflict,” Janaqi said.

“There is an average of 2 cases per school at the national level. If we take two extremes, where nearly 60% of the population lives, there are 873 reported and resolved cases , while the Selenica Regional Education Office reports 0 cases,” Janaqi said.

“In primary education, the number of cases of violence is very small, only 10 cases. While in the basic education system, there are 841 cases. In lower secondary education 848 and in higher secondary education 1051 cases. So there is a correlation between age and number of violence cases,” Janaqi said.

“Another interesting element is the person who reports and detects the violence. The two individuals who report the violence are mainly the teacher and the student. A good teacher manages to monitor the learning environment. The person himself 862 cases, the teacher 888 cases. Security officers 390 cases and 454 cases have been reported from the psychosocial service. 596 cases are students who are witnesses. Another important element is the parent. This shows a high level of awareness,” Janaqi.

“The trend has remained unchanged. The highest number is due to bullying 954 cases. Verbal psychological violence 912 cases, physical violence 796 cases. I would draw attention to two elements, cyber crimes, 79 cases. There is a growing trend in the last 5-6 years. 21 cases of depression symptoms,” said Janaqi.
“In the digital era, the cases need to be reported in real time and in turn the response will be prompt,” Janaqi said.
