TIRANA, April 1 /ATA/ The young people of Tirana will be offered the same benefits as their peers in Europe.

The Municipality of Tirana started distribution of the European Youth Charter for high school and university students, which is recognized in 36 European countries.

The mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, and Minister of State for Youth and Children, Bora Muzhaqi, handed out the first cards, which offer a range of opportunities for Albanian students.

Veliaj said that so far, thanks to the Student Card and agreements with businesses in Albania, young people access services at discount prices in 2000 entities.

“Two thousand enterprises have so far responded to us and over 75% of Tirana students have a Student Card. Although it is difficult to cut back on expenses, saving through 5, 10, 15, or 20% discounts, starting from canteens, electronic devices, school supplies, etc., helps a lot, especially in these times when we all need to be a little more frugal. But with the European Youth Charter that we distribute today, we go beyond the borders of Albania,” he said.

This card is a tool that empowers young people, offering discounts in 36 European countries in the sectors of culture, accommodation, travel, entertainment, training and studies, health sector, banking sector, tourism, telecommunications and internet, sports, shopping, etc. In total there are about 7 million cardholders and over 60,000 businesses offer discounts in Europe, while in Tirana, thanks to the Youth Agency, 2000 Student Card services will also offer discount prices for European Youth Card holders during 2022.

The Mayor underlined that the distribution of the European Charter for young people will continue in other cities of Albania.
