Car-free day being observed in Tirana

TIRANA, April 24 /ATA/ – The car-free day emptied main streets in Tirana as implementation of a municipal initiative to observe a car-free day on Sundays.

Every Sunday will be dedicated to pedestrians not only to reduce pollution, but also to promote and cultivate new culture in the capital city.

The initiative is also being observed in other cities across the country.

The police and local government institutions have published a map of roads in which traffic will be banned, as well as the relevant traffic deviations.

Measures are already in place to limit traffic along several roads in the Albanian capital starting 09:00 a.m. to 03:00 p.m.

Other municipalities across the country have joined the car-free day initiative that aims at raising public awareness and encouraging motorists to give up their cars for a day.

Tirana Marathon, Veliaj: Let’s all run on October 17, a car-free Sunday

TIRANA, October 5/ATA/ From the Grand Park of the capital, to which today were added 6 new linden trees from the Park and Recreation Agency, Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj called on the citizens to join the biggest sports event in the capital, the Marathon of Tirana, on October 17.

Veliaj said that the fifth edition of the Marathon will take place in an itinerary that includes the most beautiful parts of the city, including the Grand Park.

“October 17 will find us all running for different causes,” said Veliaj.

Veliaj also said that Sunday marathon will be a day without cars. On that day, we will make peace with nature, we will not pollute it. Sunday will be a car-free day, where some will help us simply by not hindering the running athletes, while others will help us by running,” he said./p.s./
