In a video message on the 103rd anniversary of the declaration of Tirana as the capital city of Albania, Mayor Velia said that Tirana is now through its heyday and has been totally transformed in the past few years.

“On every February 11, as we celebrate Tirana’s anniversary as Albania’s capital, I feel extremely proud, not only for being part of this city, for having been born and brought, but also for the fact that for 8 years now, together with a fantastic team, we are strongly committed to development and transformation of our Tirana that faces new challenges, but also offering immense opportunities. Who wouldn’t feel this way in a capital city like ours, the one we have built today and that is experiencing its heyday in its history,” Veliaj said in his message.

Mayor Veliaj highlighted some of the main accomplishments in 2022, describing it a historic year for the Albanian capital.

“Tirana was the European Youth Capital and in addition to a whooping 1000 youth activities, it recorded many other successes and accomplishments, including the Conference League final, Sunny Hill Festival, or music concerts featuring internationally acclaimed artists like Ermal Meta, Dua Lipa and Rita Ora, and many other activities. Tirana also hosted the EU-Western Balkans Summit, the first time that such an event is hosted by a Western Balkan country,” he said.

Mayor Veliaj added that Tirana has been also declared the European Sports Capital and more historic accomplishments await the Albanian capital ahead.
