TIRANA, Aug 26 /ATA/ The new academic year will start off in a good note at the University Campus no. 2 with many buildings revamped up to the standards, while the work continues apace to complete the renovation of all residential buildings for accommodation of students.

Prime Minister Edi Rama, accompanied by Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Evis Kushi, toured the premises of the University Campus no. 2.

“Students’ inoculation is indispensable for the normal course of this new academic year with the world struggling with the worrisome symptoms of a third wave of infection due to the Delta variant of the coronavirus. So all students should keep in mind that depending on the epidemiological numbers, vaccination may become mandatory for anyone who enters the auditorium,” Rama said.

PM said that “although the arrival of Afghan refugees is being postponed due to logistics and flights, it is likely that these facilities will not be of use. The structures arranged after the season will be freed up, but in all cases it is important to make it clear to everyone that this is not about removing students to accommodate Afghan refugees, but simply to take advantage of the time in the run up to arrival of students. ”

Secondly, Rama continued, it is important and we will closely coordinate with all offices of university presidents to make COVID vaccine mandatory for students entering the auditorium amid the high risk of infection with the new Delta variant.

Prime Minister Rama said that “the same thing goes for university lecturers. No more with reactions like “I do not want to be jabbed.” Professors who enter the auditorium and students have a responsibility to protect others while the state is under the obligation to ensure the vaccination for the people.

For her part, minister Kushi said that ” this campus consists of four buildings revamped up to the standards. They have been originally built in 1990, but have been restored in the last 3 years. Now they will accommodate students from the Faculty of Engineering, Medicine, Sports and Agriculture.”

“The new academic year begins on October 11. Most of the university lecturers have been vaccinated and we also call on the students to take advantage of the open month of vaccination because it ensures the normal course of this academic year,” said Kushi.
