TIRANA, October 20 /ATSH/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama reiterated once again call for dialogue with the students and lecturers continuing their protest, while condemning acts of violence and warning of legal and financial consequences for those who damage public or private property.

Rama replaced the chairs in front of the Prime Minister’s Office—which protesters had knocked over the previous day—reiterating his readiness, along with the government, to engage in discussions with the protesters.

“There are 1,001 grievances and 1,001 problems. There may even be 1,001 reasons to protest, but no reason justifies violence. Every reason is simply another argument for dialogue—dialogue between people who share the same homeland, who inhabit the same common home and who, ultimately, all want the same thing: to make Albania a better place,” Rama stated in a message posted on social media.

The prime minister emphasized that while the right to protest is undeniable, violence is an act subject to punishment. “The right to protest is undeniable. Violence is a punishable crime. Yesterday, dialogue was met with violence. Today, dialogue is here once again. My hand is extended to all those who think differently than I do—and who think differently than the majority, who are currently terrorized and under the pressure of violence,” he stated.

“Yet, at the same time, everything we seek to improve, everything we seek to expand and everything we seek to accelerate, is achieved through work—through the revenue generated by work. It is achieved by directing those resources toward areas where there are problems that require solutions,” said Rama.

Rama urged students and faculty to distance themselves from violence, while warning that those who damage will be held accountable.

“Distance yourselves from violence; conversely, anyone who engages in violence will face the consequences they deserve,” he emphasized.

“The response will not take long and it will be consistent. The response will be legal and it will be financial. Whoever damages public property will pay. Whoever damages the property of others will pay,” stated Rama. He emphasized that improving conditions and resolving problems require hard work, as well as the use of available resources to address the country’s needs.

“Albania belongs to everyone. In Albania, there is a place for everyone; however, no one’s freedom can extend to the point where another’s freedom begins. Your rights end where another person’s right to peace and democracy begins,” the prime minister stated. /p.s./

TIRANA, October 19 /ATSH/ – The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania issued a statement today following a clash between police forces and protesters in the courtyard of the “Resurrection of Christ” cathedral in Tirana. The Church expressed its concern after reviewing the footage and events, and called for its sacred sites to be respected.

A statement by the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania reads that its sacred sites are never places for conflict, confrontation, or any such behavior. The Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ is a sacred space for prayer, where holy services are held and a culture of peace is preached. Once again, the Church urges everyone to reject violence and choose dialogue.

TIRANA, October 18 /ATSH/ – Chairman of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha called for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the formation of a caretaker government, presenting this as the political solution to the current situation in the country—amidst student protests and recent clashes.

In a statement to the media, Berisha accused the government of corruption, obstructing the rotation of power and undermining the free vote. He further claimed that the student uprising is a consequence of what he described as 13 years of “violence” under Rama’s administration.

Referring to the clashes during the protests, the leader of the Democratic Party rejected the prime minister’s accusations regarding violence by protesters, alleging instead that the police used excessive force—including tear gas and rubber bullets.

He emphasized that the Democratic Party opposes violence, while reiterating the demand for Rama’s removal from office.

“The DP and I are absolutely against violence; in fact, Edi Rama himself is the embodiment of violence,” Berisha said.

Berisha called for the formation of a caretaker government, describing it as the only political solution for the country.

Resignation of PM Rama and a caretaker government—that is the only political solution for the country,” Berisha concluded. /p.s./

TIRANA, May 14/ATA/ Minister of Internal Affairs Besfort Lamallari stated today that police has referred 84 cases related to a major crackdown on computer fraud operations operating through call centers.

Lamallari emphasized that operations have also been carried out in other cities besides Tirana.

He mentioned the “Ghost call” operation, carried out in cooperation with Austrian partners, but also in communication with Europol and Eurojust.

“Tirana police, in collaboration with international partners, have arrested 10 people and seized over €890,000 in cash in a major operation against a €50 million+ EU online fraud scheme. The raid resulted in the seizure of extensive electronic equipment, which is currently being analyzed for evidence”, added the minister.

The minister highlighted ongoing cooperation with SPAK and general jurisdiction prosecutors, even regarding sporadic cases in other cities. He noted that these criminal activities often involve defrauding citizens through fake online investments, cryptocurrencies, and fictitious financial platforms.

Highlighting the State Police’s strong international partnerships—particularly with Italian and German authorities—Minister Lamallari affirmed that the top priority is executing strategic, operational measures to identify, investigate, and apprehend criminal elements exploiting this illegal activity.
