In a meeting with professors, researchers, and students of the Albanian language at the University of Calabria, President of the Republic praised “this important academic hub at the heart of a region that proudly preserves the Arbëresh language, culture, and heritage.”

“This university, located in the heart of the Calabria region, has another very important mission: to protect, promote, and preserve the Arbëresh language. I sincerely thank all the professors of the Department of Albanian Language and Culture. This is a commemorative year, marking 50 years of this department, and I hope and believe that this department will carry on its mission perpetually, and will forever preserve the Arbëresh language. By holding dear the Albanian language and culture, we also honor the legacy of the founder, Francesco Solano,” said the President in his speech.

He praised the extraordinary 50-year work, pursued with great passion by Professor Altimari and many others who continue to study Arbëresh, culminating in the promotion and publication of numerous works and books that will serve the new generation.

Begaj emphasized that “this is exactly what we need to build our future, to build the future of the excellent relations between Albania and Italy.”
President Begaj acknowledged the contributions and continuous dedication of researchers and professors in preserving the scientific and cultural connections between Albania and both the Albanian and Arbëresh communities, highlighting this legacy as one worthy of special honor and respect.

The Head of State congratulated the researchers on the newly published textbook for teaching the Arbëresh language.

“The selfless dedication of those professors, who without any financial compensation, focused solely on promoting a book that will benefit countless generations and preserve this invaluable linguistic heritage, is truly admirable. At the heart of these ties lies the Arbëresh community, which, through more than five centuries of effort, has demonstrated the vital importance of protecting the language and preserving our cultural, linguistic, and national identity. While words abound, it is actions that leave a legacy. The contribution of these educators, which will serve future generations, along with Professor Altimari’s lasting legacy, will continue to inspire many more scholars for years to come. It is essential that the Department of Albanology in Calabria carries on its distinguished mission to preserve and enrich the Arbëresh language and culture,” he added.
