The Democratic Party has expressed its support for Florjan Binaj in Tirana, who will be running as an independent candidate.

During today’s press conference, Berisha was asked about the statement made by independent candidate Florjan Binaj, who said he would not campaign alongside any opposition party leaders. Berisha welcomed this statement, adding that if Binaj is truly independent, there is no reason for him to campaign with party leaders.

Berisha said that party leaders will use all their means to mobilize their party electorate to vote for him.

“A non-partisan candidate proposed by a political party is a candidate of that political party. An independent candidate who runs on his own and whom political parties consider suitable to support in the best interest of citizens—absolutely. If he is independent, there is no reason for him to campaign with party leaders. But the party leaders will engage with all their capacities to mobilize their electorate to vote for him,” Berisha said.

Berisha emphasized that Binaj is not a candidate proposed by the Democratic Party.

“He is not a candidate of the opposition parties, but an independent candidate whom the opposition parties have decided to support,” Berisha said.

The Democratic Party leader said, “In these elections, by adopting this model of independent candidacies and supporting independent candidates in the six municipalities where elections are taking place, I believe we have taken a step in the right direction. And this approach will carry on.”

“The Democratic Party will do everything in its power to defend the interests of the broadest possible spectrum of Albanians. It is, and has always been, a party dedicated to the national interest. However, it must also cultivate other attributes, which it is striving to develop,” the Democratic Party leader added.
Berisha said that supporting independent candidates marks an important step for the Democratic Party, emphasizing that the time of defending against political attacks is over and that the party is now taking an offensive stance.
