State Election Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi was today in Lundër where the CEC conducted the operational testing of the electronic voter identification equipment that will be used in the by-elections for mayor, on March 6, 2022.

Speaking to reporters, Celibashi said that voting by electronic means is 100% safe.

He stressed that, for the municipality of Vora, the result, at least the preliminary one, will be announced immediately after the elections.

“We are fulfilling an obligation of the Electoral Code, although I will personally have to say that it was unnecessary to do it because we use the same machine in this election and we will use the same machine in 4 other election editions. However, as long as it is provided by the Electoral Code that before each voting process, the CEC will have to do this operation, we are conducting it. I think that the very positive experience of the CEC in application of electronic identification, is a good basis to think that in these elections the problems will be almost zero “, said Celibashi.

After today’s meeting of the SP leading board, Prime Minister Edi Rama confirmed that in this meeting it was decided to begin immediately the organization process for the elections.

PM Rama responded to the journalists’ interest in possible candidates. “I do not think we will have MPs as a principle in this race because the MPs have been elected to become MPs and this is the opinion of the entire leading board. Asked about a second chance to those affected by decriminalization, PM Rama stressed that, “second chances are given only in individual relationships.”

PM Rama also invited citizens to participate in the National Consultation process.

Regarding the alliances for the local by-elections, Rama said that, “it is universally known that we are in alliance with the citizens and the National Consultation is another step to extend this alliance with the people regardless of their vote.”

PM Rama stressed that he is more committed to the National Consultation process as it is the first time this happens. “It’s an initiative that I want to be an initiative to turn into a tradition of the government, to address the people every year with questions that require answers from them and whose answers are strategic,” he said.
