Ylli awards Olympic Order to Eva Buzo, first woman who swam across Otranto

TIRANA, August 22/ATA/ President of the Albanian National Olympic Committee Fidel Ylli received today Eva Buzo, the Albanian-Australian national who a few days ago swam across the Otranto Channel.

President Ylli congratulated Eva Buzo for the successful accomplishment of her challenge and awarded to her the Olympic Order, for the extraordinary courage and perseverance she showed, becoming the first woman to swim across Otranto.

During the meeting, lawyer Buzo got acquainted with all the achievements of the Olympic Committee, while she congratulated President Fidel Ylli for Albania’s success in Paris, bringing the first Olympic medals in the history of Albanian sports.

Eva Buzo completed her 34-hour journey on Monday, covering 92 kilometers off the coast of Lecce in Italy. She swam from the rocks of San Focca to the Karaburuni Peninsula in Vlora, where she touched the Albanian land in one of its bays, near Gjuhëza Cape in the early hours of Monday morning. /p.s./

TIRANA, Aug 19 /ATA/ – Parliament Speaker Elisa Spiropali praised the Albanian-born lawyer Eva Buzo for successfully completing a staggering 34-hour swim from Italy to Albania.

“Eva Buzo succeeded: She crossed the Adriatic and ‘connected the shores of Italy and Albania,” Spiropali said in a social media post, praising Buzo for her incredible achievement.

“92 kilometres in 34 hours, an extraordinary exercise showing the physical and psychological strength, courage and determination of the Albanian who made everyone proud,” Spiropali said.

Buzo began her swim from the shores of Lecce, Italy, and covered a distance of 92 kilometers to reach the Karaburun Peninsula in Vlora, Albania.

Rama: Sensational, 35-year-old Eva Buzo swims from Otranto to Vlora

TIRANA, June 22 /ATA/ Albanian lawyer Eva Buzo, 35 years old, who lives in Australia, has decided to swim the distance of 91 km, Otranto-Vlora.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared on social media moments while Buzo was swimming this distance.

“Sensational. Today, 35-year-old Eva Buzo swimming from Otranto to Vlora”, wrote Rama.

In an interview for the Albanian media, Buzo, who will be the first woman to swim across the Otranto channel, has emphasized that, “It is 91 kilometers and it is the first time that such an initiative has been undertaken and it has been certified by international marathon”.

“My biggest wish is to arrive on the Albanian coast and to be greeted by relations who live in Albania”, she said.

Her record is 25 hours and 90 minutes last July in Geneva on a lake.

Buzo was born in Australia and the connection she has with Albania is very strong even though she does not speak Albanian. She has engaged massively with social issues, in defense of human rights.
