TIRANA, July 13/ATA/ Albania will launch in the fall the competition for the construction of the “Blue Corridor”, a project of great importance that starts from Murriqani, in Kakavija, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku stated on Tuesday.

Minister Balluku received today in a meeting in Tirana, the Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure of Croatia, Oleg Butković, with whom she held a joint statement to the media.

During the meeting, they discussed all the steps to be taken in the future, starting from the most important project of Albania, “Blue Corridor”, while Croatia has launched this project many years ago and it is nearing completion.

“The ‘Blue Corridor’, or the Adriatic-Ionian Corridor, traverses the entire Western Balkans which is bordered by the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea, starting from Croatia to Greece. Albania has an important part of this corridor, thus we started work last year, but due to the financial problems caused by the pandemic, this project was canceled for the time being, to resume work during this year. Immediately in the fall we will once again start the competition for the construction of the ‘Blue Corridor’, which will start from the entry point connecting Albania and Montenegro, from Murriqani to the exit point connecting Albania with Greece, in Kakavija,” Minister Balluku said.

Touching on the issue of the road transport, Minister Balluku briefed the Croatian counterpart on all the modern infrastructure that is being built, or planned in the future in Albania, to respond to the great demand of tourists in the country.

“We are committed to cooperate, as we have gone through several phases, such as toll roads and the construction of railways, which is one of the biggest challenges of our ministries. During these years, we have made many steps forward in this system, so we are willing to help you with our experiences and our experts, to integrate into the railway system as soon as possible,” Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure of Croatia, Oleg Butković said. //a.i/
