TIRANA, May 9 /ATA/ On Thursday, the Assembly started discussions on the agreement with the German bank KfW for the financing of the “Green Transport of Tirana” project.

Minister of Finance, Ervin Mete, announced that the soft loan is worth 50 million will be extended by the German government through KfW and is accompanied by a grant of 31 million euros from the investment framework for the Western Balkans WBIF.

“It is in line with green policies and environmental protection and aims to improve and modernize public transport services in the city of Tirana,” said Mete.

This project, he pointed out, enables the construction of the BRT (bus rapid transit) system in 3 of the main public transport corridors in the city of Tirana.

“The intervention is planned in three of the main lines in Tirana where electric buses with dedicated lanes will be installed, making transport faster and more environmentally friendly. KfW will also assist with the implementation of the project, which is set to be completed by 2029. We highly appreciate the support of our partners in implementation of this project,” he said.
According to Mete, the loan is provided in the annual borrowing plan for the year 2024 and is interest-free for 4 years.
