The meeting aimed to foster closer Parliamentary and economic relations between Albania and Germany.

During the meeting, Peleshi emphasized the significance of strengthening Parliamentary cooperation at both the federal and state levels.

Discussions identified energy, IT, education, and vocational training as key areas for deepened interregional partnership.

During the meeting, Minister Vengu appreciated that, “Germany’s renewed commitment to Southeastern Europe carries a new strategic significance for our membership process in the European Union”.

Kodheli thanked for all the support on Albania’s path towards European integration, appreciating Germany’s leadership in this direction as extremely necessary.

She singled out her counterpart in the Bundestag Michael Roth for the leadership shown on this issue as well as his activism for integration of the Balkan region.

Kodheli took the opportunity to confirm Albania’s support for Germany’s candidacy for the UN Security Council for the period 2027-2028.

During his intervention, MP Tritan Shehu emphasized the need to improve the level of democracy in the country and asked for more space for the activity of the opposition.

On his part, Petro Koçi spoke about the effects of the justice reform. Other topics that were discussed were regional cooperation, the security situation in the region and beyond.

The German parliamentarians thanked for the time as well as for the broad panorama and the open and frank conversation.

Hacker confirmed Germany’s dedication to stability in the Balkans and said that they have been continuously informed by the government about the extraordinary work that Albania is doing to open chapters.

He said that after the attack on Ukraine, the world is no longer the same and that therefore a revision of the rules of the union is necessary, since bilateral issues can no longer serve as an excuse to block important processes for each country. /r.e/p.s./
