TIRANA, June 13/ATA/ Albanian government, in cooperation with the German government, through the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), has supported several municipalities in the country, including the municipality of Roskovec, to build composting fields that enable the treatment of green waste from farms, greenhouses and organic waste from families.

Mayor of Roskovec Majlinda Bufi stated that in this field there is carried out not only the collection of cardboard and paper, but the sale of this product that brings more revenues to this municipality.

“We also collect green waste, which has increased in the territory of Roskovec not only because it is a rural and urban area, but also because there is an increased service in agricultural areas. Almost 300 hectares are greenhouses, so through the process of composting plant waste we manage to produce organic fertilizer, which we use today to meet the needs of the municipality”, said Bufi.

According to Bufi, these are some of the processes that are being carried out today in Roskovec, thanks to the cooperation and support of GiZ.

“We are in a public hearing to approve the urban waste strategy that is produced in a certain territory. We want to add another important thing. Some trunks and branches come out that cannot be composted and this requires another process. We have olive processing, there are 450 thousand olive roots, but we want to use the branches and trunks to produce pellets that are used for heating in schools. So that the municipality of Roskovec no longer spends money on purchasing heating pellets,” she said.

Through composting, the volume of waste managed by the municipality is reduced, and at the same time the municipality creates income through the sale of the organic fertilizer that is created.

The circular economy is an economic system that aims to minimize waste through the continuous use of resources. In a circular economy, waste is minimized and resources are used more economically, in the long term, through their reuse, repair and recycling. /e.i/a.f/p.s./

TIRANA, August 19/ATA/ To reduce waste, improve the environment and serve the community by turning plant and animal waste into organic manure, several municipalities in Albania have already begun to use composting.

The German government, through GIZ, has recently supported several municipalities in the country for the construction of composting fields that enable the treatment of green waste from farms, greenhouses and organic household waste.

One of the beneficiary municipalities is that of Roskovec, where this activity aimed not only at protecting the environment, but also at creating a circular economy started on January 3rd.

Mayor of Roskovec Majlinda Bufi told ATA that during these months there have been collected 120 tons of plant waste, while 1.4 tons of plant waste are needed to obtain one ton of fertilizer.

She emphasized that on August 9, 2023, there was realized the first sale of 11 tons of cardboard waste at the price of ALL 5000/ton, income which will be spent on more essential investments.

“Through the German GIZ project, the Municipality of Roskovec has for the first time set up the composting area in the village of Marinez. This area aims to collect and compost plant waste and paper and cardboard waste, helping to keep the environment clean,” she said.

Bufi explained that plant waste is first of all collected from farmers and residents of the area, transported to the composting field, and then there begins the process of grinding them with a special grinder.

“After shredding, these residues are subjected to the silage process through it is created the organic fertilizer, another way to provide the necessary humus for our soil or garden. Through composting, we enable nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus to feed the soil to enrich the soil in parks or green spaces,” she emphasized.

Composting reduces the volume of waste managed by the municipality, and at the same time the municipality generates revenue through the sale of organic manure that is created.

The circular economy is an economic system that aims to minimize waste through the continuous use of resources. In a circular economy, waste is minimized and resources are used more economically, in the long term, through their reuse, repair and recycling. /m.m/p.s./
