Rama today shared highlights from Finance Minister Petrit Malaj’s presentation on the 2027 draft budget, emphasising that the budget will ensure a greater share of the benefits of sustained economic growth is redistributed.

Regarding the 2027 budget, Minister Malaj said it was the largest budget to date, surpassing the €10 billion mark.

As for the priorities for 2027, Malaj said payments for children with disabilities would be doubled.

He also said that social security and health insurance contributions would be recognised for the carers of these children.

“We will introduce, for the first time, a monthly baby bonus starting in 2027. This year, we will also introduce an exemption from personal income tax for vulnerable groups,” Malaj said.

In agriculture, the minister said the VAT reimbursement programme would continue throughout 2027. “The direct support scheme for farmers is projected to increase to ALL 5.3 billion,” he added.

According to Minister Malaj, healthcare will also remain a key priority in this year’s budget.

“We have increased funding by around ALL 1 billion, or approximately €10 million, for medications and medical equipment in primary and secondary healthcare,” he said.

Malaj also highlighted that the government had fulfilled its commitment to allocate 2.35% of GDP to defence. For the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he said one of the key priorities would be completing the mission in Brussels.
