The concept of the new Velipoja-Ulcinj bridge project was rolled out during the “Open Balkan” summit, which was held on Wednesday in Ohrid, in the presence of the two prime ministers, that of Albania, Edi Rama and Montenegro, Dritan Abazovic.

Prime Minister Edi Rama in his remarks noted that this bridge will bring about development and communication.

“It will be developed as a detailed project and we will build it together. In August, the detailed project will be completed and after the detailed project, we will sit together to go for it, ” said Rama.
Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that the Albanian government has the funds for the construction of the bridge.

“The Albanian Development Fund has the financial resources. They can disburse the money for the coming year without any constraints due to budget rules,” Rama said.
Rama also informed that the Albanian government will build the road from Shengjin to Velipoja, which will shorten not only the distance, but will also boost development and communication.

“This is the spirit of the ‘Open Balkan’, anything else people might say does not matter,” Rama said.
Rama said that the bridge will be ready to allow the accommodation of all ships that will sail on the Buna River.

“The bridge will allow the passage of all tourist ships that will sail on the river, but at least let us reach that stage of 70 years ago, when my grandmother, who lived at that time in Shkodra used these ships and was so nostalgic for that time. If you look at Marubi’s photos you see these beautiful places, with small boats sailing. At least let’s get there, then for the bigger ships, they too will arrive when the time is due. “Of course we are here to build a bridge and we will build the bridge,” said Prime Minister Rama.
The new bridge that connects Shkodra with Ulcinj, 310 m in length, will shorten the distance 73 times, making it easier, among other things, to explore joint tourist offers.
