Helidon Nina, head of Oncology at the University Hospital Center “Mother Teresa” told ATA that, “The most affected age group is in the 50-70 age range and for this purpose mammography is recommended especially for this age group.”

Nina also focused on the trend of diagnostics in recent years and the way these methods have changed over the years, including at the “Mother Teresa” University Hospital Center (QSUNT).

According to him, the mainstay of breast cancer treatment remains surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy, etc.

Nina also highlighted the modern techniques being applied in the hospital.

He emphasized that in addition to the medications provided by the Drug Fund, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare is aiming for breast prosthesis after surgery to be fully reimbursed by the state.

Prof. asc. Nina also emphasized the need of early diagnosis.

“The state and the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs offer free mammography not only during Pink October, but also throughout the year in hospitals, maternity hospitals, and mobile stations,” said Nina.

The Chief of Oncology concluded his interview for ATA with a message addressed to all women and girls, not to wait for October to have a mammogram and breast ultrasound, but to take advantage of any time of the year.

TIRANA, October 1 /ATA/ On the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, i.e. October, Prime Minister Edi Rama and Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu released today in the social media the inspiring stories of women who, with strength and courage, are winning the battle for life.

Minister Manastirliu launched today the campaign against breast cancer, in the month dedicated to the fight against this disease.

Through a message addressed to women and girls, Manastirliu appealed not to neglect their healthcare and to perform timely examinations for breast cancer.

“The pandemic has had its effects on our lives, unfortunately, creating delays in routine health checks, especially in women. Therefore, in this pink October, I would ask every woman to take only 30 minutes of her time, to do the breast self-examination and to have a mammogram “, Manastirliu emphasized in her message.

Appealing for timely diagnosis, the minister said that mammography is already provided in every regional hospital.

“Our program for early diagnosis of breast cancer has provided mammograms in every regional hospital from north to south and this service is free of charge”, said Manastirliu./k.s/p.s./
