Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports Blendi Gonxhja inspected restoration efforts, reinforcing the site’s preservation and ensuring its long-term protection.

“We are dealing with an object that is related to history, findings, perimeter walls from 2500 years ago,” said the minister while inspecting the Borsh Castle, where during different periods there have been interventions that have also damaged the castle.

The intervention is challenging, requiring comprehensive structural stabilization, including anchoring the castle road and reinforcing the mosque’s rock base.

Co-funded by the World Bank and the Albanian Development Fund, and in collaboration with the National Institute of Cultural Heritage, these works are designed by CHwB Albania and monitored by Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage Vlorë. There is work underway with the Municipality of Himara to implement integrated management, focusing on sustainable transportation, neighborhood upgrades below the castle and overall tourism promotion. /j.p/p.s./

During the visit, the minister was accompanied by Mayor of Himara Municipality Vangjel Tavo, MP Damian Gjiknuri and Director of the Water Supply and Sewerage Directorate in Fier. The project includes interventions in 570 meters of the riverbed, curbing erosion and protecting 2.7 km² of agricultural land and the surrounding residential areas.

Salla emphasized that the project contributes to community safety and the long-term development of agriculture, being part of the government’s “Agriculture 2030” strategy. He added that the rehabilitation of canals, dams and rivers is essential for reducing flood damage and creating more favorable conditions for agricultural development.

On his part, Mayor Tavo noted that the project was an early request of the community and is now being implemented thanks to the cooperation between the local and central government. The works are ongoing and are expected to be completed according to schedule, bringing sustainable benefits to the area and local agriculture. /e.xh/a.f/r.e/p.s./

During the ceremony of extending property titles in Himara, Rama focused on the investments that will be made in Borsh.

The prime minister assessed that another generation of tourism is being born in Borsh in terms of hotel infrastructure that will bring more revenues.

“We also have many other projects that affect Borsh and other points. Borsh needs intervention. It is actually an area with less intervention in terms of public investments, but not for any other reason, but because we did not want to build roads that would then be destroyed by the influx of constructions. In the Southern areas, another generation of tourism is emerging in terms of hotel infrastructure, the quality that will bring tourists who will spend more and will bring more revenues to the area”, said Rama.

The prime minister said that, “We have all the reasons to be very optimistic about the future because what we are doing today is boosting the economy”. /a.f/p.s./

This area is not only distinguished for coastal tourism, but also historical and cultural. At the top of the village of Borsh is located the Castle of Borsh or as it is known in history: the castle of Sopot, from where you can see the beauty of the landscape from above.

Finally, Borsh Castle has been subject to cleaning and other maintenance works by the workers of the Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage Vlora.

Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti emphasized today that, “The employees of the Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage Vlora take care of every monument, wherever they are located”.

“It was Borsh Castle’s turn to undergo cleaning and other maintenance work,” she said.

Borsh Castle is located 500 m above sea level and dates back to the IV-III century BC. Sopot Hill, on which the castle rises, is located north of the village of Borsh and west of Fterra. On the west side, the mountain forms some natural terraces, where you can see a series of remnants of medieval buildings.
