TIRANA, June 20 /ATA/ – Borsh, a coastal village located 17 kilometers from the town of Himara, southern Albanian Riviera, keeps drawing large numbers of domestic and international tourists during the summer season.

As part of his regular social media series “Beautiful Albania”, Prime Minister Edi Rama shared scenic images of the Borsh beach, extending an open invitation to visitors to explore its natural and cultural richness.

In addition to its pristine beaches, turquoise sea, and lush greenery, Borsh is also home to a wealth of historical and cultural landmarks, reflecting the area’s ancient heritage.

Among these is the Sopot Fortress, perched atop a hill known locally as “Kala.” The hill’s strategic location offers an unobstructed panoramic view and historically allowed for the control of key transit routes between Saranda, Kuç, and Vlorë.

Its favorable geography, abundant water resources, and natural defenses have made the area continuously inhabited since antiquity. The fortress is referenced in both Byzantine and Venetian sources and is considered a significant defensive outpost from the Hellenistic and Byzantine periods. It sits at 250 meters above sea level and about 3 kilometers from the coastline.

On the western side of the hill, within what is believed to be the site of an ancient city, remnants of a prehistoric surrounding wall are still visible. Human skeletal remains discovered within the fortress foundations date back to the Late Bronze Age, offering further evidence of the region’s long-standing settlement.
