PRISHTINA, Aug 30 /ATA/ – Thousands of Kosovo residents have crossed into Albania through the Morine border point in recent days, creating heavy traffic as the summer holiday season draws to a close and the new school year approaches.

According to data from Kosovo’s Border and Migration Directorate, 51,278 Kosovo citizens entered Albania through Morine between 5 a.m. on August 29 and 8 a.m. on August 30, travelling in 14,692 cars and buses.

Traffic had also been heavy in the preceding days. Between August 24 and 28, 152,694 Kosovo citizens entered Albania through the crossing, accompanied by 46,870 vehicles.

Overall, 203,972 Kosovo citizens crossed into Albania through Morine between August 24 and 30, using 61,562 vehicles, the data showed.

The increase in traffic comes as Kosovo residents make the most of the final days of the summer holidays before the new school year begins on September 1.

The heavy traffic at Morine reflects a broader trend seen throughout the summer. About 1.43 million Kosovo citizens entered Albania in May, June and July, many travelling to the country’s Adriatic and Ionian coast, according to official data.

The figure also includes members of Kosovo’s diaspora who visited their homeland and travelled to Albania’s coast during the summer holiday period.

Traffic at Morine is expected to remain heavy as September approaches, particularly towards Kosovo, as holidaymakers return home ahead of the new school year.

TIRANA, June 18 /ATA/ – Representatives of the Albanian and Montenegrin customs administrations held a coordination meeting on Thursday as preparations continue for the opening of a joint border crossing point at Zogaj-Ckla/Skje.

The meeting was also attended by officials from border police authorities, local government bodies and institutions responsible for infrastructure development.

Discussions focused on progress in determining the location of the customs facilities and on the technical requirements needed to make the crossing operational during the current tourist season.

Authorities said the new crossing is expected to facilitate cross-border travel, strengthen ties between communities on both sides of the border and create new opportunities for economic and tourism development in the area.

The joint crossing point will operate under a one-stop border control system, allowing travellers to undergo a single inspection procedure and helping streamline border formalities while improving crossing efficiency.
