Prime Minister Edi Rama, who was present at the ceremony organized on the occasion at the border point of Qafë Thana, appreciated the importance of this decision.

“This is an important moment for all those who pass through this border point, be them individuals or companies that trade between the two countries. It is an important moment because we finally make it easier for them to cross this border point and definitely give a further impetus not only to trade exchanges, but also to the development of our relations as a whole without forgetting the development of tourism,” he said.

Prime Minister emphasized that this year Albania is experiencing an extraordinary impact due to transformation of its image.

“Like never before, the flow of tourists but also the number of large international investors interested in investing in the tourism industry in Albania, together with Albanians in the diaspora, or even those who live in Albania, is very encouraging,” he said.

Rama emphasized that further development and growth of the tourism industry, as well as the growth of other production sectors, require a complex approach.

An inalienable part of this approach, according to him, is precisely the transformation with view to facilitating border crossing.

“We have been continuously talking about this with the Prime Minister of North Macedonia and we have seen that there are many obstacles arising from the inertia of the past and on the other hand from the prejudice for the free movement. In fact, the free movement brings not only more convenience, but also more transparency and less risk of bad practices in the treatment of citizens and businesses,” he said.
