According to police, the main objectives of the plan include preventing illegal activities in the water area – such as drug and arms trafficking, illegal border crossings, and environmental crimes; increasing safety for residents and tourists; strengthening control over border zones; identifying problematic points along land and water borders; sharing operational information with regional partners; and combating the cultivation of narcotic plants.

Patrols focus on heavily trafficked waterways including Lake Shkodër and the Buna River, as well as strategic land and water points along the Albania-Montenegro border.

During the plan’s initial phase, authorities inspected boat documentation, safety equipment, compliance with approved routes, and adherence to water traffic regulations.

Police highlighted that the collaboration demonstrates strong institutional cooperation aimed at ensuring public safety, preventing illegal activities, and boosting trust among citizens and tourists toward police structures.

Hoxha said that talks with North Macedonia’s Minister of Internal Affairs also focused on enforcement of the one-stop and one border control program and ways to further streamline border crossing procedures at the joint Qafë-Thanë- Kafasan border crossing point.

Interior Minister also said that the two discussed a project on rehabilitation and reconstruction of the PKK Bllatë-Spas border crossing point and implementation of the one-stop shop program.

“We discussed ways to streamline procedures and complete the agreement, as well as the infrastructure projects at the Xhepisht – Trebishtë joint border crossing point in order to increase the number of beneficiaries of the streamlined border control and crossing procedures. We also discussed management and continued maintenance of the border between the two countries,” Hoxha said.

The two counterparts also discussed close ongoing cooperation in the fight against organized crime and efforts to prevent illegal migration.
