In a video message alongside the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manastirliu, from health center No. 1, Bino stressed the importance of getting the booster doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

“Vaccination with booster doses builds up immunity to COVID-19. It is also important for those who had the initial course of two doses, or those who have gotten over the infection, since they do not have that sufficient protection. The booster shots trigger a better immune response against the new subvariants,” said Bino.

“As part of the vaccination program, we administer 5-6 tetanus vaccine shots during lifetime. For COVID-19, we administer up to 4 shots,” said Bino.

Bino also spoke about the combination of the flu vaccine with that against COVID-19.

“Given that both COVID-19 and influenza are respiratory infections, i.e. of the respiratory tract, it is important that the vaccines are administered at the same time. By getting the two jabs at the same time, you protect yourself against two respiratory diseases that circulate in winter,” the head of the Department of Epidemiology at PHI, Silva Bino, said .

About 170,000 citizens, mostly elderly people over 60 years old, pregnant women, children have been vaccinated with the flu vaccine so far.
