TIRANA, April 18 /ATA/ Head of the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) Altin Dumani participated today in the conference organized by the Faculty of Political and Legal Sciences at the “Aleksandër Moisiu” University of Durrës.

During his speech, Dumani said that, “There can be no peace without justice and there can be no democracy without accountability”.

“The rule of law can only be achieved with the contribution of everyone and we are trying to guarantee that the law is read equally, without privileging some and forgetting others”, said Dumani.

Dumani added that, “The Justice Reform supported and coordinated with our international partners was implemented with essential constitutional changes. The purpose of this reform is to increase the independence of the system, especially from political influence and to free it from corruption and incompetence”.

Dumani said that, “SPAK and BKH were created to strike at these two phenomena that hurt a state, prevent it from moving forward, and crush hope for a better future.”

“SPAK was one of the products of the justice reform and has shown that it is capable of prosecuting any subject regardless of political, economic power or connections it may have with the criminal world and here mainly with the organized crime world,” said Dumani.

Head of SPAK said that, “There are still many challenges to eradicate corruption of high-ranking officials and organized crime.”

“The exchange between legal practice and theory is fundamental. The jurisprudence that we develop as an institution must be enriched and guided by theoretical reflection, critical analysis, and academic evaluation that you, as researchers and lecturers, provide,” said Dumani.

Dumani underlined that, “Hopes for a fairer and more accountable justice are directly related to the formation of the new generation of lawyers; this generation must be equipped not only with knowledge, but with ethics, courage and a sense of service.”/r.e//a.f/p.s./
