TIRANA, Oct 20 /ATA/ Minister of State for Entrepreneurship Protection, Edona Bilali, received on Wednesday in a working meeting the representatives of the IBMA-AMAP Association operating in the market of medicinal and aromatic herbs with whom she discussed projects for promoting exports of this sector.

“The meeting touched on fast-procedures for issuing construction permits to farmers and collectors of medicinal plants,” said Bilali.

The interlocutors also underlined the need for accredited laboratories.

“The support that the government will address to the medicinal plants sector aims to promote employment and processing capacities according to the best standards,” said the minister.

In Albania there are over 7 thousand species of plants, which account for almost 32% of the entire flora of Europe.

Exports of these plants have increased incomes for local families and spurred employment.

The sector of medicinal and aromatic herbs has created employment opportunities for about 100 thousand families living in rural areas of the country. It generates about 18mln euros in exports, listed as the second largest sector in agricultural exports.
