Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj said in a post on the social media on Friday that the incredible design has transformed the Pyramid into the most popular site for foreign tourists visiting the Albanian capital and a technology hub for young people.

“The renovated architecture of the Pyramid of Tirana has won the Big South-East Europe architecture award! Gratitude to MVRDV studio for this incredible design. The Pyramid has become the most popular site for the countless number of foreign tourists visiting Tirana and for young people learning coding at Tumo Tirana,” Veliaj said.

The Pyramid, originally built as a museum for communist dictator Enver Hoxha 1988 in the heart of Albania’s capital city, underwent a dramatic transformation between 2021 and 2023) and has now been opened as the biggest regional technology and innovation centre.

The Pyramid is expected to become a new hub for Tirana’s cultural life and a platform for the new generation to thrive.
