TIRANA, Sept 15 /ATA/ Sali Berisha, Chairman of the Democratic Party, reported on Monday to the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) in accordance with the “Obligation to Appear” measure imposed by the Appeals Chamber of the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO).

Berisha presented himself at SPAK at around 10:00 AM. In a media briefing outside the prosecution offices, he claimed that SPAK chief prosecutor Altin Dumani abused his position for personal gain.
“Altin Dumani was raising his voice because his unconstitutional, coup-style efforts to prolong his mandate had failed,” Berisha stated. “This constitutional offender exploited his office, violated public trust, and manipulated the law to serve his own personal interests.”

The Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime (GJKKO) has referred to trial the case file concerning the former “Partizani” sports complex, in which former Prime Minister Sali Berisha is charged with “Passive Corruption of High State Officials or Local Elected Representatives.”
Meanwhile, his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, is charged with the offenses of “Passive Corruption of High State Officials or Local Elected Representatives” as well as “Money Laundering of Proceeds from Criminal Offenses or Activities.”
SPAK alleges that while serving as prime minister, Berisha abused his power to benefit his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, in the privatization of the former “Partizani” complex. The prosecution asserts that the privatization was conducted irregularly and unlawfully influenced by Berisha, resulting in unjust advantages for Malltezi and financial losses for the state. Berisha has denied the charges, describing them as politically motivated.
