TIRANA, Feb 16 /ATA/-Maela Marini/ The Democratic Party chairman Sali Berisha declared on Monday that the legislative initiative introduced by the Socialist Party on Monday, which bans the suspension of constitutional functions, deals a blow to the rule of law.
In a media briefing following his reporting to SPAK under the “Mandatory appearance” measure, Berisha described this as the most severe, criminal, and degrading affront to the Albanian people.
“Through this unprecedented act in global history, Edi Rama is signaling to the Albanian people that he and his criminal network, including his ministers, are above the law and any accountability in this country. They are beyond investigation, free to embezzle funding, and will continue to do so. This reflects the true moral and legal intent behind the amendment they are presenting today,” Berisha asserted.

He stated that this initiative is the strongest safeguard for the corruption system they have put in place.
“I warn Edi Rama that he will pay a heavy price for this move, and he is exposing to the Albanian people and the world what kind of thief he truly is. This man, caught in the act of major corrupt affairs, is now crafting laws to continue embezzling without the risk of suspension,” Berisha warned.
According to him, suspension is absolutely a legal right granted by the law to prosecutors and judges.
“Suspension does not run counter to the principles of the Constitution or the separation of powers,” Berisha said.

The leader of the Democratic Party emphasized that with this act, Edi Rama is effectively closing the doors to Albania’s EU integration.
