TIRANA, Oct 27 /ATA/ The Democratic Party chairman, Sali Berisha, said on Monday that after a debate with the majority regarding questions to the heads of justice institutions, that parliament is attempting, through a planned strategy, to deny the opposition its constitutional right to query justice officials.

Berisha criticized the proposal requiring the opposition to forgo public questions—or, alternatively, allowing reports to be voted on without being read—as an “unacceptable deal” and a move to bypass transparency.

Speaking outside Parliament, he also accused SPAK chief prosecutor Altin Dumani of protecting the government’s interests and claimed that he has not recovered “a single cent” from funds embezzled in corruption scandals, including the incinerator affair.

Berisha criticized the proposal requiring the opposition to forgo public questions—or, alternatively, allowing reports to be voted on without being read—as an “unacceptable deal” and a move to evade transparency.
Speaking outside Parliament, he also accused SPAK chief prosecutor Altin Dumani of protecting the government’s interests and claimed that he has not recovered “a single cent” from funds embezzled in corruption scandals, including the incinerator affair.
“He is an adversary of pluralism,” Berisha said, adding that “in the election year, he went after the opposition at all costs, using house arrest, imprisonment, and criminal charges, so that his criminal party—and he himself—could secure victory in the elections.”
“These matters are not unfamiliar to those who follow us. What remains unknown are the 1.2 billion euros vanished under these government officials, of which he has not returned a single cent to the Albanian people. His conflict of interest is also still unknown,” Berisha said.
He added that the opposition will hold “protests, because without them, the situation will continue to worsen steadily.”
