TIRANA, Jan 17 /ATA/ The Municipality of Kavaja has awarded a certificate of appreciation to William G. Walker, the former head of the OSCE observer mission in Kosovo during the war, who was the first to document the Racak massacre as a crime against humanity.

The Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Walker by the Mayor of Kavaja, Fisnik Qosja, in recognition of his contribution as an ambassador, diplomat, humanist, and a steadfast advocate for the cause of Kosovo.”

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, who was also present, said in his speech,” In the annals of this nation’s history, Ambassador Walker is not only a hero of Kosovo, but a hero of Albania and every Albanian and they are forever indebted for his individual contribution to national freedom.”

Furthermore, Berisha added, “Without your stance, without your courage, without your integrity, perhaps the history of Kosovo would not be what it is today.”

The Municipality of Kavaja also awarded Certificates of Appreciation to two journalists, Ilir Ikonomi and Beqir Sina.

The leader of the Democratic Party stated that the two journalists are “notable figures of the Albanian community abroad.”

“Ilir Ikonomi is one of the country’s most distinguished journalists, publicists, and, in fact, one of its foremost historians. Voice of America played a crucial role in the fall of the communist dictatorship, serving as the sole source of information and inspiration for the Albanians,” stated Berisha.

“Beqir Sina represents that class that was sacrificed and martyrized for the highest values of humanity, the class that, after World War II, would experience concentration camps, modeled after Nazi camps, with the sole purpose of exterminating the enemy class. This is the truth. Beqir Sina represents that class, which, as the elite of the nation, was targeted to be eradicated, to cease to exist,” said Berisha.

“Beqir Sina, a talented journalist and writer, with his works has completed the series of works in our literature ‘Rrno për me tregue,’ without which the literature of Albania and its history would have been incomplete. In fact, not just incomplete, but also disgraced, as it depicted a very dramatic reality,” said Berisha.

Also present at the ceremony organized by the Municipality of Kavaja and the Association of Anti-Communist Persecutees was the Ambassador of Kosovo to Albania, Skënder Durmishi. /j.p/sm/
