In a statement on the social media, Veliaj stated he was fully cooperating with a probe launched by Special Structure Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK), voicing confidence that the investigation would clear him of any wrongdoing.

“Truth will prevail. Justice bodies are treated as colleagues and not as traitors and bandits,” Veliaj said, calling Berisha the “last communist hyena of Europe” and criticizing his history of scandals and corruption.

“I don’t need to explain myself to someone whose career is built on chaos and corruption,” Veliaj said, pointing to Berisha’s role in past electoral fraud, political violence, and the 1997 civil unrest.

Tirana Mayor said he had nothing to hide, underlining that, unlike others, he’s always been open about his actions in both his public and private life.

Veliaj said that while he supports the judicial system in holding people accountable, Berisha has tried to weaken these institutions.
