TIRANA, June 13 /ATA/ Home to 84 lakes spread across an area of 196 square kilometres, Belsh remains one of Albania’s most distinctive tourist destinations, attracting a growing number of domestic and international visitors each year.

In an interview with ATA, Albert Hysa, Director of Tourism at the Municipality of Belsh, said the area’s natural wealth, tourism infrastructure and strategic location are the main factors behind its appeal to visitors.

“Belsh is a truly unique area in Albania. The large number of lakes, tourist attractions and investments made in recent years have transformed the town into an important destination,” Hysa said.

“We have a renovated central square, a pedestrian promenade, cycling lanes, sports facilities, a panoramic tower and stunning natural scenery. In addition, Belsh’s location in the heart of Albania, close to Tirana, Elbasan and Berat, makes it easily accessible,” he added.

According to Hysa, the Municipality of Belsh continues to invest in projects aimed at further developing the area’s tourism sector. The latest initiative involves the renovation of the panoramic tower at the town’s entrance, where the ground floor will house a tourist information centre to help guide visitors.

Another recent addition is the construction of two zipline attractions near Lake Belsh and Lake Marinza, offering visitors new recreational experiences and expanding the range of outdoor activities available in the area.

Construction is also expected to begin soon on a 19-kilometre tourist trail that will allow visitors to walk or cycle while enjoying views of seven to eight of the area’s lakes.

On tourism figures, Hysa said that Belsh recorded around 250,000 visitors in 2025, underlining the growing popularity of the lake district as a domestic and international tourism destination.

“Based on data we receive from hotels, restaurants and other tourism-related businesses, we recorded around 250,000 visitors last year,” Hysa said. “The trend has been increasing year after year, and we are welcoming tourists from various countries around the world.”

“Expectations for 2026 remain high, as visitor numbers are visibly growing not only during weekends but also on ordinary weekdays,” he added.

Belsh offers a wide range of attractions for visitors. In addition to the town centre, pedestrian promenade and cycling lanes, tourists can stroll around Lake Belsh, take boat trips and visit monuments and other sites of cultural interest.

One of the area’s most significant investments, according to Hysa, is the Dumrea Eco Park complex, which he described as a unique project in Albania. The development brings together a variety of tourism, recreation and entertainment attractions, further enhancing the region’s appeal to visitors.

With its rich natural assets, ongoing investments and growing number of visitors, Belsh has emerged as one of Albania’s most attractive destinations for nature-based and family tourism.
